Apocalipsis en Jade
Ceramic sculpture with underglazes stains and glazes.

14in x 8in x 18.5in, 2022
This work is inspired by a Jade bead with a similar design of a vulture perched on top of a head. In this piece I reimagine the history and retell it through this ceramic sculpture. By exploring this history I can see its foreshadowing of the future. A time where humans have met their end and the animal and earth kingdom rise to control again. The bead that this piece was based off was a Taino, or indigenous to the Caribbean, bead. These were the first people to encounter Cristov Colon "Columbus" and these people witnessed the genocide of the native people which I believe is the story the original bead tells.
